Don’t limit yourself to just adding length to your hair. Hair extensions offer a simple solution to fine hair and can add a little pizzazz to thick, curly or wavy hair in any color or style. Hair extensions, like cosmetic surgery, can change your life. It has been the secret of Hollywood stars for years, and now it’s available to you.   There are hundreds of methods used to apply hair extensions and just as many types of hair. The most popular system out now is the strand by strand method made by companies such as Great Lengths, Gemstress, Ultratress,  Remy, and OnRite. The hair that is used by these companies is all 100% human hair and comes from India or Europe. Since the hair is real it can be styled just like your own hair. Blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons and round brushes can all be safely used. The correct shampoos and styling product will be recommended by Marta Hernandez. These extensions are attached to your hair with polymer bonds near the root in small sections.   A heated tool is used to soften their bonds so they can be rolled around the hair sections forming a round seal.  The bond is then is folded around the sections making the individual sealed bonds small, smooth and flat.  Right now a full application should take about 3-5 hours. As your hair grows out the bonds will get lower on the hair. In 4 months they will be about 2” away from the scalp. At this point they might become visible or just make styling a little difficult. So it’s time to take them out and have new ones put in. The removal process is the same for all of the companies mentioned above. A gel with a safe amount of alcohol is applied to the bond to dry it out. Then it’s pinched to break it up so it can safely slide out the hair it’s attached to. Normal wear time is 4 months but if your hair is finer 3 might be the maximum. If your hair grows slower you could wear them for up to 6 months, but any thing past that and you’re risking damage to your hair. Common Questions How long does my hair have to be to get extensions? Not very long at all – that’s the beauty of hair extensions.  They can be applied to thinning and short hair to fill in areas or make your hair appear to grow magically over night!  The only limit is your imagination. How long do the hair extensions last? Extensions last an average of 4 ½ months, but may vary from 3 to 6 months.  There is no additional cost to remove the extensions. How much do hair extensions cost? The extensions vary in cost depending upon the length and volume that you have and the length and volume you would like to have. Generally speaking, prices range from $250 to $4500. Is a deposit required? Yes.  A deposit is required once we have completed your consultation and scheduled your appointment so that I might order the required amount of hair extensions.  Your deposit is applied to your final cost. Do I have to do anything special to maintain my hair extensions? Yes.  Caring for hair extensions is a bit different from caring for natural hair. Some things that you should know. Use a soft bristle brush and brush your hair from the bottom and gently work your way up. Gently tie your hair up while sleeping. Do not color your own hair extensions at home. To prevent tangling, run your fingers through the braid extensions. Don't spray your extensions with conditioners or any silicone based products as they can cause the braids to slip.
